Greenleaf investment process: research and decision making

When you choose an investment or wealth management firm, you want a company that is systematic and reasoned in its approach to recommending investments for your portfolio.

The focus of the Greenleaf process is selecting, monitoring and revising investments appropriate for you. We follow an investment process that’s worked exceptionally well for our clients over the decades. The result is a consistent pool of investment possibilities from which your portfolio manager can select those that meet your particular requirements.

Investment process

We would be pleased to discuss the workings of this critical process with you at any time. The building blocks are:

  • The Greenleaf investment policy committee establishes and enforces the firm’s investment strategy as well as sets standard asset allocation guidelines.
  • Principals and investment staff hold regular and in-depth meetings to select and remove stocks for and from the approved investment list.
  • Similarly, principals and staff establish bond selection criteria and evaluate current offerings for relative attractiveness.
  • Greenleaf portfolio managers recommend and monitor investments for client accounts based on how each meets individual client investment objectives
  • We report investment results through quarterly performance summaries, letters and reports, as well as through periodic meetings.

Specific meetings within the process include:

Weekly investment committee meeting:

  • All managing and research staff present

  • Market and economic overview
  • New buy recommendations
  • Sell and trim recommendations
  • Company news review
  • Quarterly strategy review and economic “forecast”

Weekly research meeting:

  • All research staff present
  • Detailed buy/sell discussions
  • New idea origination
  • Special events discussed
